Description

The 2026 Oral History Australia Biennial Conference will be held in Tardanya/Adelaide, South Australia, on the lands of the Kaurna people, from 3-6 December. The conference is being presented jointly by Oral History Australia and Oral History Australia SA/NT.

About the conference

Our conference theme ‘Human Voices, Modern Technology: Oral History & Authenticity’ is very timely given rapidly advancing technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are therefore thrilled to welcome Doug Boyd, a world expert on technology and oral history, as our keynote speaker.

We welcome participants who use oral history in their work across the many fields and disciplines that contribute to community, professional and academic histories. We welcome presenters from Australia, across the Tasman and throughout the oral history world.

Concession rates are available for members of OHA state associations and the National Oral History Association of New Zealand (NOHANZ).

Keynote speaker

Professor Doug Boyd PhD is the Director of the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries and is a recent president of the Oral History Association. Boyd  envisioned, designed and implemented the open source and free OHMS system, which synchronizes text with audio and video online.  In 2019 Boyd received a Fulbright Scholars Research Grant to collaborate with the National Library of Australia on innovative access to online oral history. He is the author of Oral History: A Very Short Introduction  published by Oxford University Press in 2025.
